National Taco Day

Taco History
Although taco's are quite popular in the United States, the origin of the yummy tortilla, stuffed with a variety of taco fillings, is somewhat unknown.

Taco experts tend to think the word originated in Mexico, but no one knows for sure.

Americans ate over 4.5 million tacos last year.  That amount of tacos could take you to the moon and back.

Anthropologists claim there is evidence to support that inhabitants of Mexico ate tacos with fish, small live insects, ants, snails and locusts.

Some tend to think that Taco Bell invented the u-shape tortilla, but the taco shell was invented long before Taco Bell came on the scene.

In fact, the first u-shaped taco was referenced in 1949 in a cookbook.  But there is no question that Taco Bell had an influence on the popularity of tacos in North America.
