Couples all over the world have been trying to discover the secret to a successful marriage.  Is love really enough? Are there other important considerations that can keep couples in matrimonial bliss?

One couple had some great advice to give regarding what makes a marriage work.  According to Willie Williams, who is 100 years young, having a great marriage is not as complicated as some may think.  Daniel W. and Willie Williams have been married for 82 years.  The couple met in 1937 in Newberry, South Carolina, about two hours away from where the couple resides today in North Carolina.

Daniel told WCNC that “She was good looking,” when he met his wife for the first time.  “I felt the same way,” “I thought he was handsome, ”Willie says. They have been through so much together, including the Great Depression, wars and the Civil Rights Era.

Willie and her husband Daniel, who is 103 years young, recently enjoyed a joint birthday bash hosted by their daughter and granddaughter at the Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church located in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Their birthdays are seven days apart.

During the celebration, Willie shared that simply being kind to one another has contributed to their long and healthy marriage.  She told a local reporter “Just be nice to each other!” “We have never been the type that would fuss and fight,” Willie says. “We just find funny things to talk about.” She also shared that the good Lord was taking care of them and without God, they could not have made it. Congratulations to this beautiful couple!
